FMLY Fest Los Angeles is happening December 29-30 and Adopt-a-Band is our way of helping bands who will be playing that festival find free, safe, and friendly places to spend the night. We’ll post photos of the bands along with short bios they’ve written so show-goers can both meet the bands and have an opportunity to give them a place to stay while they’re in town for the Fest.
We’ve designed two simple surveys for bands and people interested in hosting bands to take. We’ll take that info and use it to make perfect band/host matches. When we’ve made a match we’ll e-mail both parties and if everyone agrees on the match then, ta-da! We’ve done our job and everyone has a blast. If it doesn’t work out then we’ll start over until every band has a place to stay.
Who can apply for Adopt-a-Band?
The only people who can apply to stay at someone’s home with Adopt-a-Band are bands who will be playing at FMLY FEST Los Angeles. If you’re part of a blog or other collective directly involved with the Fest then you can still apply with the band application but you’ll need to state specifically who you are and what you’ll be doing so we can verify you.
If you are someone who lives in New York and you have a kind heart and a little extra space then you can apply to host a band. In order to verify you as a real person and not a creep or a pervert or some other unsavory character you’ll need to attend a FMLY Fest meeting. Meetings happen about every two weeks and you can attend any meeting. Upon your request we will happily notify you when new meeting dates are set. If you don’t take this step then we cannot let you take in a band.
What do I get for being a host?
Your rewards for hosting will be:
- one weekend FMLY Fest pass for each member of your household who wishes to attend, to be registered under each individual’s name and to be collected the day of the show
- special perks from your band that they’ll outline in their bio on our homepage. this could be a free tape or record, a six-pack of beer, a smooch every time you snap your fingers, or all of the above. it’s a mystery prize!
- the friendship of a lifetime with your new band babes
- warm and fuzzy feelings all around
As a host, what are my obligations to the band I adopt?
Your basic duties will be to give your band a safe place to sleep and help them figure out how to get where they’re supposed to be going while they’re staying with you. We hope you’ll go beyond this though and have fun with your band, let them use your shower, and make some new memories.
What happens if something goes wrong when a band/host match finally meet up?
We expect everyone to be on their best behavior and for everyone to squeeze kindness and respect out of their every pore but we understand that problems happen. If a host turns out to be a weirdo or a band does something out of line or anyone is plain uncomfortable for any reason then don’t hesitate to call us. After we finish matching a band/host pair we’ll provide you both with an emergency contact list of people you can call in sticky situations. You can call these numbers for any reason from needing help after getting lost on the freeway to needing to relocate a band after finding out your match isn’t working out. Our top priority is that everyone feels safe and comfortable with each other.
